Food: Healthy Snack – baked chickpeas

A few weeks ago my sister posted on Instagram a picture with a jar with baked chickpeas (see picture below). Immediately I sent her a text and asked her for the recipe so that I can try it…so I did it and it turned out to be very delicious, you should see Stefan when he ate them 🙂

Chickpeas are an excellent source of fiber, vitamins B6 and B9, folic acid, manganese, protein and minerals such as iron, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, copper and zinc. It can also be an ideal substitute for meat protein.

There are many ways you can eat chickpeas – you can use chickpeas in salads or as preparations such as hummus (mashed chickpeas), falafel (fried chickpea puree) or couscous (whole grains chickpeas). But today I will tell you how we made a healthy snack that you can eat when you feel that you just want to eat something or to replace the popcorn when you are watching a movie.

Here are the ingredients that you need:

Ingredients for healthy-snack-baked checkpeas

(500 g dry chickpeas, 1 liter water, olive oil, salt, paprika, chili)

First step is the longest, you have to let the chickpeas in water over the night (12 hours it`s enough) allowing them to become soft. After that you need to dry them with a paper towel, it should look like this:

Chickpeas soft and ready to be baked

Put them into a baking tray preferably on a baking paper and bake them into the oven for 15 minutes at 200°C (We used an electric oven). After they are baked a bit, take them out let them cool for a few minutes and then add olive oil, salt, paprika and chili (not too much chili otherwise will be too spicy).

When you spiced them enough put them again in the oven for 10 more minutes and you are done. Let them cool for a few minutes and they are ready to be eaten. Look below our new movie snack:

 Try it!
